Hello everyone, it's "The Bug Man Preacher" I have come with a mighty Word, may the Lord quicken this Word to you, and give you insight into His marvelous Scriptures.....
Sermon Title: "A Lump of Figs"
Scripture: (Isaiah 38:21) "For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and
lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover."
In this scripture we see the Lord using a peculiar method to heal King Hezekiah. The Lord had first sent Isaiah the prophet
to tell Hezekiah that he was to set his affairs in order, that he was going to die: Hezekiah repented (Isa 38:2,) and the Lord heard
his prayer of true repentance, and changed His mind (verse 5.) What an awesome God we serve!! The Lord told Isaiah to tell Hezekiah that
He would give him 15 more years to live; The Lord even gave Hezekiah a sign from Heaven, by turning the sun dial back ten degrees to confirm His Word
that Isaiah had given.
The strange and unorthodox thing in this whole text, was the method the Lord had Isaiah use to bring about the healing to
Hezekiah, this is in the opening scripture, (A Lump of Figs.) We must not forget how Jesus speaks to us from His Word, every single
verse means something. Form the smallest verse "Jesus wept" to the longest chapters like Psalms 119; The
Lord, many times will use symbolism to portray the hidden mysteries of the kingdom. It is up to us to ask, seek, and knock, for the door of understanding
to be open to us.
Many just give up on the spiritual symbolic mysteries, and think with natural mind; for instance, most commentaries on this
verse, will say this is how the Lord uses medicine to heal. Which is honestly ridiculous, why would the maker of Heaven and earth need anything like
a lump of figs to help Him in healing our feeble little bodies? He is able to move in and out of time, able to reach inside our
bodies, able to raise us from the dead, so why then would He choose to have Isaiah apply A Lump of Figs for a plaster upon a
boil to recover Hezekiah?
The key to this revelation is in the spiritual meaning of these four things, A Lump, Figs, Plaster, and
Boil. We are going to go into what these mean spiritually, and how this relates to us today:
First lets look at A "Lump"
The Webster meaning is: 1. "A Small Irregular mass" 2.
"Not divided into parts, 3. "A United Entity " 3. "To group together"
4. "To move noisily"
You probably wondering what in the round world does this have to with anything, right? Check this out!
Christ tells us there will be only a remnant saved in the end, which means:
"A Small trace, or group' WE are a Irregular and Noisy bunch
is what Peter says:
(1 Peter 2:9) "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an Holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the
praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light:
Paul instructs us not to be divided into parts in:
(1 Corin 1:10) " Now I beseech you Brethren, by the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ
that you all speak the same thing , and that there be no divisions among you; but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment."
Have you Guessed yet who the Lump symbolizes?
(Romans 11:16) "For if the first fruit be Holy,(Refers to the
Patriarchs of Israel, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) the Lump is also Holy: and if the root be Holy, so are the branches.
Paul says that WE the Body of Christ are the
Lump according to: ( 1 Corin 5:7) "Purge out therefore the old leaven, that YOU may be a
New Lump, as YOU are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is Sacrificed for US:
Now the FIGS
"Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a
plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover."
Ok figs are a fruit produced by one of the first trees that were planted in the garden,
(Gen 3:7.) Now even though this tree's leafs made poor coverings, it produced a very tasty fruit ; The fig in the natural sense
could also be used for drawing an infection out of a open wound, or to bring the infection to the surface: Now we know that the
Lord doesn't need our feeble medical abilities to heal. So the reason He would use "A lump figs" placed as a
"plaster" upon this "boil" is to show us a picture (Type and shadow,) of what He
would do for us by becoming flesh, taking upon Himself our sins and going to the Cross.
You see Hezekiah being the King of Israel, and being sick unto death, would represent
Israel's backslidden condition; but not only does he represent Israel's condition, but the sinful condition of mankind as a
whole: The Lord told Adam if he partook of the Tree of the Knowledge Good and Evil, that he would surly die: The Lord told Hezekiah to get
his affairs in order that he was going to die! Hezekiah's repentance brought the tender mercies of God, and God spared his life: As such, the Lord
decides at this time to show us what He Himself is going to do about mankind's infectious condition,to spare our lives, by giving us this
symbolic remedy for Hezekiah's condition.
The "Plaster" which means "Protective
dressing," Or "To cover," represents our covering; we who have repented from our hearts as Hezekiah did, and have
received the healing balm of Jesus Christ, are covered by Blood: Also to show us what His Word does as it is proclaimed! The Word of
God, "who is Jesus" as He is proclaimed, like "The Figs applied" draws the infection of
sin "The Boil" to the surface, and then heals us by His cleansing Power: Thereby we
"Recover" as the opening verse states: We also see by the account of Hezekiah, that those who have truly
(recovered\been born again) desire to praise the Lord:
(Isaiah 38: 1-22) In these verses we see that Hezekiah received the Figs (God's
Word) being brought forth, repented, and was given the Plaster that represented (The Covering
of Christ) and he recovered:
(Mark 10:17-34) In these verses we see this rich man desired the things of this world instead of Jesus: The Figs
were applied (God's Word,) the sin was brought forth and into the light, but the man refused to repent and receive the
Plaster ( The Covering of Christ) to be healed and recover:
On a second note:
We also have the fig tree mentioned in : (Matt 24:32) " Now learn
a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
This is representative of Israel in the end times we now find our self in: They became a nation in 1948, the barren land they
re inhabited is now a very tender branch, and is putting forth leaves: This small country is the topic of every leader in the world, almost every nation
now would love Israel to just disappear. She puts out more technical knowledge then almost any other nation, So the leaves of this small nation are
putting forth now! But she has No Fruit, (No Salvation) Why? Because the denial of Christ! When Israel denied Christ they were cursed:
(Mark 11:11- 21) Read: "From the roots up"
But why is Israel represented as the Fig tree? Because as the scriptures I used earlier says:
(Romans 11:16) "For if the first fruit be Holy,(Refers to the
Patriarchs of Israel, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob) the Lump is also Holy: and if the root be Holy, so are the branches.
Israel at first was the kingdom of a royal priesthood,
as:
(1 Peter 2:9) "But ye are a chosen generation, a royal
priesthood, an Holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light:
We as Christians have now inherited this royal priesthood through Christ ; Israel was the first fruit
that was to proclaim God's Word (The Figs to draw the infection of sin to the
surface,) throughout the world. Salvation is of the Jews, as Jesus hath said: As they rejected Christ, we then were grafted
in,(Romans 11:19,) so now we as Christians are that New Lump, that proclaims God's
Word (The Figs to draw the infection of sin to the surface ) to bring about repentance, so the healing Plaster
( Blood Covering of Christ,) can be applied unto the nations:
And yes, there shall come a day very soon were all of Israel shall be grafted back in, they shall look upon the One they
pierced and weep and mourn: (Zech 12:10.)
(Rev 22:1-4) "And He showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal,
proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the Tree of Life, which
bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the Tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no
more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and His servants shall serve Him: And they shall see His face; and His name shall be in
their foreheads.
(Isaiah 38:21) "For Isaiah had
said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover."
By Lump, I mean One Body united together, not divided, as the meaning of Lump
declares: By Figs, I mean Us declaring the Gospel of Jesus Christ, therefore bringing a healing balm to Countries, Cultures, Cities, and
People, that draws to the surface the Boil of Sin, and heals it with a Plaster covering "the Blood of Christ": Hallelujah!
May the Lord bless you and keep you.................Darell
