Brother I agree with you. I said the 'sinners prayer' when I was 6 years old on the front porch of my house, June 6 1977. See I can even remember the date, the time of morning, the wether and what not. But can I remember a change in my life because of it??? No I cant. I knew God was with me though, but yet there was no transformation or as Paul Washer says, "if you have no relationship with your sin, you have no relationship with Christ". I did not know the depths of sin, but I can honestly tell you that I did not have a down deep desire to not sin because of who I met. Now my mom could have told me not to have sinned, even my Sunday school teachers could have, but there was no desire to not sin against my Lord. That is the difference now. I desire not to sin and offend my Lord. I still fail though. Its a struggle some times. But the one thing I can say is that I do have a relationship with my sin. I see it and I grieve and ask for forgiveness. So if that is what this women thinks, then right on sister! But if shes just condemning people all around than shame. That word "individual" also threw me off as well. I dont know what to think of it iether. As far as leading someone to Jesus Christ, I do believe in prayer but not as the 'formula' would dictate. I simply ask them "are you ready to submit all of your life and your desires to follow Him". If they say yes, I then lead them in a prayer of repentance. But when it comes to asking God to forgive of sins, I tell them to start listing the sins that they know are wrong. The last time this happenned the guy started to shake. I simply told Him that if his heart was trully desiring to repent, than he could speak out loud to God the sins he trully desires to repent from and me standing there would not matter. Well this is exactly what he did. He hit the ground with tears flowing. Shaking also started as satans grasp was being released. The man was a true new creature in Christ. His heart was lifted as he had an encounter of really being forgiven and God met him. There may be other ways to do this, but to me if there is a true desire to be forgiven and have a life transformation, than repentance will flow know matter who is standing there. This is relationship.
